    TU’s Engineering Introduces THAM-ROBOT Delivering Medical Facilities to Reduce COVID-19 Risk

    Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, has introduced an innovation, Tham-Robot. The robot is used to send medical facilities at Thammasat University Hospital in order to reduce the risk of contacting COVID-19 patients.

    Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, reveals an innovation “Tham-Robot: Medical Facility Delivery Robot”. It is the first intelligent trolley that is being used for sending medicine and medical facilities. It is necessary for Thammasat’s field hospital in order to reduce the medical staff’s risk of touching COVID-19 patients. The robot is built under a social distancing principle. The robot can be controlled by remote control from the office, and minimizes the risk of coming in contact with the patients.  The production has been sped up in order to serve the need and distribute to other hospitals in the future.

    Assoc.Prof.Dr.Thee Chiasiripongkul, Director of the Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, says, ” After we established field hospital for accommodating COVID-19 patients in Thammasat University, Rangsit campus, medical staff has to work really hard to treat them. The treatment process puts them at risk of touching the patients. Therefore, the working team led by Mr/Wikorn Thanaratchat, alumni from Mechanical Engineer, Master’s degree, and Mr.Promsurin Putthammawong, the fourth-year student of Electrical and Computer Engineering, mutually developed ‘Tham-Robot : Medical Facility Delivery Robot’. It is an intelligent trolley used for sending medicine and medical facilities. It is essential for the treatment of Thammasat’s field hospital. The robot is part of a social distancing tool that helps medical staff. The inventors spent only 48 hours developing this robot after establishing a field hospital in order to use it as soon as possible.”

    Tham-Robot works by the special tools installed under the trolley in order to guide its direction. In order to control the trolley, we can use remote control and medical staff can control it in the office without walking to patients’ rooms. As a result, it reduces infection risk. We can use Tham-Robot instead of walking to patients’ rooms in some situations, including delivering medicine throughout the day, delivering food, and collecting urine and feces samples by using the remote control. Apart from work in the building, according to the experiment, Tham-Robot can be effectively used on road surfaces outside the building.

    “This initial “Tham-Robot: Medical Facility Delivery Robot” is being used at Thammasat’s field hospital in Thammasat University, Rangsit campus. We currently speed up the production process in order to serve the needs and deliver to other hospitals in the future.” said Assoc.Prof.Dr.Thee.
