Universiti Malaysia Pahang: First Technical University in Malaysia to Achieve 5-Star QS Rating

On 17 July 2018, faculty and staff at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) cried “hurray!” for being awarded the prestigious QS 5-star overall rating. We shouted for joy as becoming the only and first Malaysian technical university and non-research university to have received such a distinguished 5-star overall excellence rating. Specifically, UMP’s QS Star ratings reflect high qualities of teaching, research, and community services taking place at the institution, all of which contribute towards the great program strength and high employability generated. UMP also does well in the advanced criteria of QS Star ratings, namely ‘Innovation’ and ‘Inclusiveness’, with 5-star ratings. This groundbreaking achievement reinforces the results of previous prestigious ratings and high-profile assessments. Big congratulations to UMP!

YH Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor of UMP highlighted that: “This achievement coincides with UMP’s glorious aspiration to become a state-of-the-art technological university by 2020 which will receive not only local but also international recognitions.” “This 5-star rating is the latest testament to effective teaching, productive research, outreaching globalization, and impactful innovation at the university,” he continued. Overall, these ratings mean that UMP’s quality is well recognized at not only the national level but also the international arena by virtue of the global scope of QS’ Star Rating System.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang is ranked in the top 2.4 percent of universities in the 2018 QS Asia University Rankings and has received a five-star overall rating in the QS’ Star Rating System 2018. These achievements are attributable to the substances of Universiti Malaysia Pahang, including its five-star ratings in Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA), the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions 2017 (SETARA), and the Ministry of Higher Education Star Ratings 2017 (MyMoheS).
