MSU Collaborates with Westports Malaysia to Expand its Environmental Sustainability Efforts

Management and Science University (MSU) expands its environmental sustainability efforts, via a new collaboration with the world’s first garden port, Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Providing educational opportunities as a positive step in building environmental sustainability and robustness, the MSU-Wesports Malaysia  MoU presents the immediate objectives of care, conserve, and community engagement initiatives for the environment, plus long-term objectives that include human capital development for the country’s forestry industries.

Primarily targeting engagement of the communities on and around Pulau Indah in Klang, activities planned will be open to joint participation by both MSUrians from all faculties and schools as well as Westports members of staff.

Said activities, whilst they primarily aim to raise public awareness of environmental issues, will also be geared towards a special focus on the role that forests play in the environmental ecosystem; to empower the community with actionable knowledge, and guide the younger generation into shouldering responsibility for the world they are inheriting.

The collaboration entails expert human resources as industry panelists and volunteer teams mobilizing care and conservation efforts.

The MSU-Westports MoU seeks also to create bilateral opportunities in academic as well as industrial training and research.

West Port is the largest seaport in Malaysia, the second busiest port in Southeast Asia, and the world’s first internationally recognized garden port.

Its strategic location along the Straits of Melaka places it among the world’s busiest shipping routes for containers as well as conventional cargoes, connecting some 350 major ports around the world.

Witnessing the signing were the Selangor Chief Minister, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid and the Westport Chief Executive Officer, Lee Mun Tat

Signing for MSU was the Vice President for Industrial Linkages and Entrepreneurship, Professor Dr Abdul Jalil Ghazali, and for Westports, its General Manager, Marketing and Conventional, Vijaya Kumar Puspowanam.
