    Universiti Malaysia Kelantan to collaborate with UNAIR Postgraduate School

    UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA NEWS – Universitas Airlangga received a visit from a foreign partner last week. It was from one of the universities in the neighboring Malaysia, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). It sent one of its lecturers to establish academic collaboration with the Postgraduate School.

    After the Letter of Intent (LOI) signing on Friday, December 13, with some Postgraduate School leaderships, Professor Dr. Mohd. Azam Khan Bin Goriman Khan as FKH UMK teaching representative said that this visit had long been planned. UNAIR has previously visited Malaysia, so the visit was intended as an effort to maintain friendship and establish cooperation.

    In his visit from Wednesday, December 11, to Saturday, December 14, Prof. Azam had the opportunity to give a guest lecture. On the first day, he was asked to give lecture at Postgraduate School. To the students, Prof. Azam shared his story during his doctorate (PhD) program at University of Glasgow, Scotland. “I shared my experience while taking a PhD in Scotland, including the joys and sorrows felt by doctoral candidates, such as from cultural differences, distance from residence, finance, scholarships, until the time of study. The goal was to motivate the students. Besides, I also visited FKH UNAIR and gave general lecture on animal health, especially horse reproduction to students, “he explained.

    Prof. Azam’s visit received a positive response from the Director of UNAIR Postgraduate School, Prof. Dr. Sri Iswati SE., M.Si., Ak., and staffs. According to Prof. Sri, the educational collaboration between Postgraduate School and FKH UMK was the first time. The collaboration was aimed to accelerate UNAIR’s effort to achieve Top 500 World Class Universities.

    “In this meeting, there were several things we agreed on, such as plans for implementing inbound student, outbound student, inbound staff, outbound staff, guest lectures, publications, research collaboration programs, organizing joint counseling, and exploring potential collaboration for double degree program with several programs in Postgraduate School. And the most possible is the Immunology Program,” said Prof. Sri.

    The professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR revealed that in the near future, both parties will be involved in collaborative research and publications. And in 2020 there will be an agenda to prepare a proposal. Later on, there will also be five students who go on student outbound to UMK. (*)
