UiTM’s Computer Science Graduate Runs an Online Business Backed by the Power of Social Media

In this challenging COVID 19 era, Umar Faiz Daniel Ibrahim, a graduate from the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia started an online business soon after he completed his course in March this year.

Umar, who holds a degree in Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons.), UiTM armed with computing knowledge set up his own company named UFD Technology which does computer construction and maintenance. Besides, he also sells computer goods and accessories through social media and marketplaces such as Facebook, Mudah.my and Carousell.

When asked about the main challenge he faced in running an online business, Umar  was quick to say that “it was quite difficult to gain customer trust in the early stage “ and “initially I had to provide  services to my friends at a discount.” He added that it worked well for his business because “as friends gave positive reviews via social media, it automatically became a promotional tool and a crowd puller”.

The power of social media enabled Umar to gain more customers to the extent that UFD Technology generated sales more than RM8000 in its very first month of operation. More recently, UFD Technology has moved one step further to be a “reseller” of the products of Todak Gaming, a Malaysian company that develops online games.
