    UiTMComputing goes global through MoA with Birmingham, UK

    The Faculty of Computer & Mathematical Sciences (UiTMComputing), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia extended its academic collaboration through a strategic partnership with the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom for the Bachelor of Computer Science Degree Programme. A  Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed by UiTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof Ts. Dr Mohamad Kamal Harun and University of Birmingham, Computer Science degree coordinator, Dr Ian Kenny on 5thSeptember 2019, for a three year period.

     

    Selected students will study for three semesters at UiTM and four semesters at the University of Birmingham. They will also receive a scholarship (20%) of the total fees payable. The students who graduate from the programme will receive two bachelor degrees, one from UiTM and one from the University of Birmingham. He added that the idea of creating such a collaboration came from the rapid growth in the digital world.

    “Therefore, we are taking the opportunity to form partnerships with foreign universities as a strategy to produce computer science graduates who are relevant to current and future technological needs,” he said. The annual target is to have at least five students to study at Birmingham University, UK.

    Dual programmes have been offered in UiTM since 2014 for degree, masters and PhD programmes. Other international dual programmes include SRH Heidelberg University, Germany (Master Science International Business and Environmental Engineering), Hoschule Fur Technik Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (Master of Arts in General Management) and University of National and World Economy (UNWE), Bulgaria (PhD in Economics).

    Mohamad Kamal added that “this collaboration will enhance the quality of education and research at UiTM to global standards”.
