Ts. Dr. Mohd Zaki Mohd Yusoff, from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Penang Campus, a visiting fellow to Universitas Airlangga, spent a week in late 2019 on various collaborative work.
The program began with a fruitful discussion with Universitas Airlangga’s Prof. Dr. Win Darmanto, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and the Vice Dean (III) Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah, at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, Campus C, Surabaya.
Joint journal publication, research grant collaboration, and mobility of students and staff were the main initiatives discussed during the week-long visit. After the discussion, Dr.Zaki gave a lecture on “The Introduction to Semiconductor Materials and Current Research in Nitride Materials” at FST. The lecture session focused on the fundamental properties of materials and the current research on semiconductor devices. The informative lecture was attended by 32 students from the Bioengineering Program of the university.
The topics covered in this lecture included the understanding of crystal structures, types of semiconductor materials, and the latest development of high-speed photodetector. Overall, students were very impressed with the latest semiconductor technology and enjoyed this lecture. The materials of this lecture were up-to-date, interesting, and kept students extremely motivated.
The next event was a sharing session with the research staff from the Material Research Department, Universitas Airlangga on the topic “The Opportunities for Research Collaboration”. During the discussion, there were several selected research projects that were discussed which could be conducted jointly by UiTM and Universitas Airlangga.
The program ended with a Workshop on “Writing a Scientific Research Manuscript” which focussed on the research staff from the Physics Department. The topics presented and discussed during the workshop were on the methods to write a good manuscript, submission of a manuscript, and how to answer reviewers’ comments.
