    UiTM experts on Data Analytics at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh (ITS) Nopember, Indonesia

    Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia lecturers went global recently by sharing their expertise at Institute Teknologi Sepuluh (ITS) Nopember Indonesia. The knowledge sharing programme was part of international collaboration activities by Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), UiTM with international universities to put UiTM on the world map. Professor Dr Yap Bee Wah, Associate Professor Dr Shuzlina Abdul Rahman and Dr Sofianita Mutalib,  experts in Intelligent Data Analytics from FSKM  were invited by Dr Suhartono, the Head of Statistics Department of Fakultas Matematika, Komputasi dan Sains Data, ITS to conduct workshops and discuss academic collaborations at ITS from 29th October 2019 – 1st November 2019.

    The main aim of this international programme was to increase academic and research collaboration between UiTM and ITS. Two workshops, “Predictive Analytics using IBM SPSS Modeler18” by Professor Dr Yap Bee Wah and “Sentiment Analysis Using WEKA” by Associate Professor Dr Shuzlina Abdul Rahman and Dr Sofianita Mutalib were successfully conducted. The workshops highlighted the applications of big data analytics and about a total of 40 undergraduate and postgraduate students attended the workshop.

    Prof. Yap in her session emphasized the importance of analytics in today’s world. The graduates should be exposed to the analytics methodology so that they are prepared for the job market. Additionally, “Sentiment analysis, allows you to analyze people’s opinions, feelings, and attitudes and helps businesses to understand the social sentiment of their brand, product or service.  All these can simply be analyzed using the right tools”, reiterated Dr. Shuzlina.

    ITS has continuously supported the Soft Computing in Data Science conference organized annually by FSKM since 2015. Other outcomes of this programme included the establishment of MoA between UiTM and ITS on student and staff mobility, discussions on academic dual programmes and decision to host The Sixth International Conference on Soft Computing (SCDS) 2020 in Surabaya by ITS.
