Shah Alam, 10 February 2026 – A knowledge transfer programme on the Smart Aquaponic System (Sistem Akuaponik Pintar) was successfully conducted through a collaboration between the Fakulti Kejuruteraan Elektrik UiTM Shah Alam and Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Kok Lanas, Kelantan.
The initiative was implemented under the Geran Inovasi Sosial, aimed at empowering communities through technology transfer and sustainable innovation.
The project is led by PM Ir Dr Suzi Seroja Sarnin from UiTM Shah Alam, together with a team of lecturers and researchers. The team successfully designed and developed a Smart Aquaponic System tailored to the needs of Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Kok Lanas.
The system integrates aquaculture and hydroponics with smart monitoring elements, enabling efficient and sustainable cultivation of fish and plants. This innovation not only supports food sustainability but also introduces technology-driven solutions to the community.
The programme included hands-on training sessions, where participants were guided on system operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting. This initiative aims to enhance practical and technical skills among participants while promoting self-sufficiency and environmental awareness.
This collaboration reflects UiTM’s continuous commitment to community engagement and inclusive development, particularly in supporting institutions such as Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK), which focuses on the rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The Smart Aquaponic System is expected to contribute to sustainable food production, skill development, and potential income generation for the PDK community.
