Universiti Teknologi MARA,(UiTM), Malaysia has bagged the QS Wow News Top Article Award for 2020. The prestigious award, the first for UiTM, was won by UiTM’s Electrical Engineering faculty.
The article titled ‘UiTM’s Electrical Engineering research on Enhancement Volt-Var Optimization via Artificial Intelligence (AI) won Gold at the 2019 ACEiC’ was jointly written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Murtadha Othman, Director of UiTM Solar Research Institute (SRI), co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nur Ashida Salim from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM and edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Geetha Subramanium, from Institute of Quality & Knowledge Advancement (InQKA), UiTM.
Dr. Murtadha exclaimed, “Winning the Gold Award at ACEIC was an honor, but winning the QS award for the article was a pinnacle achievement for us after striving to complete an intense industrial project involving various parties including the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) as our main collaborator.”
“The achievement of this prestigious award could not be realized without the relentless support and encouragement from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UiTM (Research & Innovation), Prof. Dr. Mohd Nazip Suratman; Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari; Solar Research Institute (SRI) team; Research Management Centre (RMC); Ministry of Work (KKR); and Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA).”
According to Dr. Ashida, “Winning this award was a great honor which was something so unexpected as I have prepared more than 15 QS Wow News articles this year. But I am very grateful that this article was selected as the winning article for the QS Wow News Top Article Award.”
Earlier, QS Asia University Ranking 2021 announcement saw UiTM moving up 11 places from 2019 to rank at 108th in 2020 among universities in Asia.
Writing articles for QS WOWNEWS, an initiative by Assistant Vice Chancellor of INQKA, Prof Dr. Roziah Janor, started intensely since 2019 with the main aim of “making UiTM visible’ and ‘to make aware the activities and collaborations in various faculties and branch campuses in UiTM, which is a comprehensive Malaysian university”. Prof Dr. Roziah has been promoted as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), UiTM from 1s December 2020.
“UiTM has published more than 120 articles in QS Wow News in 2020 and I am very proud to have contributed to a major part of this.” said Dr.Geetha, from InQKA. She added, “The news which comes from various faculties and branch campuses of UiTM throughout Malaysia focusses on lecturers’ activities, student activities, collaborations, and community engagement”.
