Thammasat’s Engineering Won 3 Awards from the 10th International Motor Expo 2019

Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University gained a great reputation again. Intelligent Screening System for Bicycle Lane is an innovation from Creative Engineering Design and Development Laboratory (CED 2) that won the first prize. The silver and bronze medals are Intelligent Automobiles for Blind people and Electric Wheelchair for people with cerebral palsy and ALS. The innovations won awards from The 10th Motor Expo Automotive Innovation Award 2019 in the 36th Thailand International Motor Expo 2019 at IMPACT Challenger, Muang Thong Thani.

    • The first prize is Intelligent Screening System for Bicycle Lan by Mr.Suriya Sarnthima and Mr.Theppong Thepwongsirirat.
    • The second prize is Intelligent Automobiles for Blind people by Ms.Purichya Ungboonthorn, Ms.Patcharaporn Sridetch, and Mr.Promsurin Putthamwong.
    • The third prize is Electric Wheelchair for people with cerebral palsy and ALS by Ms.Chanakarn Arunothaisantikul, Ms.Wanwalita Sathchang, Mr.Kraivit Udomsawaengsap, and Mr.Chollakarn Manoyen.

Mr.Suriya Sarnthima, a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student, Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, says that he is delighted and thankful for his advisor, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dullayachot Chonlasuk for his advice. He is also thankful for everyone who dedicated in this work. Our screening system uses AI to screen motorcycle and bicycle. The system will screen motorcycle out of bicycle lane by differentiate the vehicle appearance. The camera will detect and send information to Raspberry pi to process the data and send signal to the barrier gate system. The barrier gate can automatically open and close and can be easily folded down, Mr.Suriya states.

Mr.Theppong Thepwongsirirat, a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student, Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, also says that our inspiration for this invention is to deal with the thoughtlessness of motorcycle users in Thai’s society who drive in a bicycle lane not only in the university but also in community area.

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Dullayachot Chonlasuk, a Professor at Mechanical Engineering,  Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, and advisor, reveals that this invention is a part of Mechanical Engineering project. It was a coworking innovation from the students last year. Therefore, it was developed to be practically used so we decided to present this invention in the competition.

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Dullayachot also says that I am pleased and appreciated that the students received awards after their hardworking and efforts during they developed this invention. Students got experience after making the invention which can be used in their future career. I am thankful for people who have attributed their help in this invention, especially programme writing. However, students also need to develop hardware and software to complete this invention.

All in all, the 10th Motor Expo Automotive Innovation Award 2019 is the competition where students can show off their skills and creativity in making invention and innovation. The competition was held in the 36th Thailand International Motor Expo 2019 by Inter-Media Consultant Co., Ltd.
