    Thammasat University, leader of “Sustainable University” showcase their performance at ISCN 2019

    One of the TU’s policies is to be the “Best Sustainable and Smart University”. Our main goal is to promote stability and sustainability through innovative management. We also give an importance to environment, local community, society and people which is considered as crucial parts of being “sustainable university”. Moreover, the concept conforms to TU’s motto which is to love the people and be responsible for the society. Thammasat University shows its leadership in sustainability in International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) 2019, at Sao Paulo, Brazil on 12-14 June 2019. The main theme of the event is  “Partnerships for Progress”. Thammasat University led by Prof. Dr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, Vice Rector for Sustainability and Administration (Rangsit Center) and Prof. Pranisa Boonkham, Assistant to the Rector for Sustainability participate in the convention and capture people’s attention with their 4 projects.

    Prof. Dr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, Vice Rector for Sustainability and Administration (Rangsit Center) presents ‘Thammasat Solar Rooftop’ project. The project aims to produce solar energy by installing panels on buildings at Thammasat University in Rangsit center. Moreover, it was planned to install panels at Thammasat University in Lampang center and Tha Prachan center as well. This project interests many audiences in the convention because it is a high-cost project. However, Thammasat University and its allies carry out this project in only two years.

    Besides, Prof. Dr. Prinya acts as a moderator in a workshop room about “Participative Approaches to support Circular Economy & Waste Mitigation”. He also presents “Thammasat Kayak Fleet” project which shows the cooperation between many sectors to solve the problem of trash in the river and sea. The project attracts many people’s attention and many international volunteers decide to involve in “Kayaking for Chao Phraya” which will be held this year, 2019.

    Prof. Pranisa Boonkham, Assistant to the Rector for Sustainability, present another two projects. First, TU has been working on “Reduce single use plastics” project. Our strength is to cooperate with public and private sector. TU act as a leader of other universities in Thailand to reduce plastic bag, plastic cutlery and plastic straws in convenient shop. Lastly, she presents “Dome Organic” project that proceeds in Tha Prachan center and Rangsit center. The project is about utilising green area sustainably by growing organic plant and vegetables on 100th year Puey Learning Park’s rooftop. The building will also be used to hold the next International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN).

     Overall, Thammasat University has shown an outstanding performance of being a sustainable university in international convention. Afterward, Prof. Dr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, Vice Rector for Sustainability and Administration (Rangsit Center), aims to present TU’s project and participate in a Sustainability Awards competition, held by ISCN.
