Borussia Dortmund and the University of Europe for Applied Sciences launch BVB scholarship

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) and Borussia Dortmund have jointly launched a scholarship to support young talent in the field of education. This is part of the university
cooperation between the two institutions that has been in place since last year.

BVB full scholarship

A total of five full scholarships per semester will be offered across campuses for all bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes at UE (excluding MBAs, orientation semesters and dual degree programs). In additionto paying the tuition fees, the scholarship holders are assigned a mentor from BVB as a permanent contact person for the duration of their studies, who takes
care of the scholarship holders’ specific professional needs.

Scholarship holders take a look behind the scenes at the professional club

In addition to the BVB Mentoring Program, all scholarship holders have the opportunity to obtain an internship within the BVB Group. There will also be a biannual meeting at the stadium with all
scholarship holders.

Professor Dr Maurits van Rooijen, President of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, who is very pleased with the new scholarship programme, shared: “Together with BVB, we at UE would like to contribute to more educational equality, because a high-quality education at a private university should not exclude top students on the basis of their background or financial possibilities. That is why we have been offering various scholarships for some time now. The BVB scholarship, with its exclusive proximity to one of the most world-renowned professional clubs, is special for us.”

BVB and UE expand their social commitment to education

BVB, which is committed to numerous social projects, is expanding its social commitment to education and higher education with the BVB scholarship.

“Through the scholarship, we come into direct contact with high-performing and highly motivated young professionals who get to know our company right from the start. For us, too, in addition to educational equity, the aim is to retain talent. The scholarship enables us to support young people who, without financial assistance, might have fewer chances of gaining access to a private university,” explains Carsten Cramer, Managing Director at Borussia Dortmund, the importance of the scholarship programme with the University of Europe for
Applied Sciences.

Admission requirements and application deadline

The application deadline for the BVB scholarship is 31 July for the winter semester. Anyone who successfully enrols in a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme at UE can apply. More information about the application can be found here: BVB Scholarship Information | Application | UE Germany (ue-germany.com).

The university cooperation between UE and BVB has been in place since July 2022 and enables UE students to gain insights into BVB’S work, meet well-known BVB personalities and gain experience at one of the world’s most renowned professional clubs.

The new BVB scholarship now takes the collaboration between the two institutions to a new level.

H-FARM increases its university offer: New partnership with University of Europe for Applied Sciences

H-FARM COLLEGE, H-FARM’s institute for undergraduate and postgraduate education is expanding its offering of bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and executive courses to deepen knowledge of the digital economy, management and digital transformation.

Thanks to the partnership with the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) in Berlin, two new fully state-accredited courses have been added with teaching focused on practical application, the development of the most effective skills and case history studies. These are the Bachelor of Science in Digital Business & Data Science and the Master of Arts in Innovation Design Management.

Both focused on innovation, digital entrepreneurship and knowledge of new technologies, the bachelor’s degree in Digital Business & Data Science is taught in English, with a focus on the collection and analysis of data, now increasingly strategic to building the success of any company and crucial to any institution. This degree responds to the huge and growing demand for specialists in digital business, computer science and data analyses, offering students career prospects as data scientists, data analysts, market research analysts, but also e-commerce managers and digital marketing managers.

The course includes the first year at the H-FARM Campus and the second at the UE Innovation Hub of Potsdam, which is on the grounds of the SAP Think Campus, one of the most important technology centres in the Berlin metropolitan area. The third year is dedicated to the internship, an important opportunity for each student to work on a real project designed on his skills and targets together with H-FARM College, University of Europe and the companies involved to put into practice the knowledge acquired and the skills developed during the course.

The Master of Arts in Innovation Design Management is among the most cutting-edge management programs today. It is aimed at those who want to specialize in a field becoming increasingly important for companies looking to create an organizational culture of innovation and change. The program has a two-year duration, the first at H-FARM Campus and the second at the UE Innovation Hub in Potsdam. Graduates develop strong skills in interdisciplinarity, innovation and creative problem solving and work, for example, in corporate strategy, consulting and customer experience design.

“With this partnership with the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, H-FARM COLLEGE confirms itself as a pole of attraction for young talents who want to study the most up-to-date topics in order to be ready to face any possible future scenario”, says Antonello Barbaro, CEO of H-FARM Education. “Those who choose a course at H-FARM know that here they can have a number of advantages that they would be hard pressed to find elsewhere: the possibility of coming into contact with an important network of entrepreneurs and startuppers, cultural events on the most popular topics and a campus on a par with the most famous American campuses”.

Prof. Johannes Kiessler, Academic Director Campus Development & Corporate Partnerships of UE is also pleased about the cooperation: “We are very excited to enter this new partnership with H-Farm College. The collaboration of two internationally acclaimed institutions across two countries confirms the global change to a more human-centered and sustainable culture of innovation.”

The two new courses will start in September 2022 at the H-FARM Campus in Ca’ Tron (TV).

UE to offer free industry certification courses on digital skills and latest technologies

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has announced a collaboration with leading business and tech companies to offer its students a suite of digital courses at no additional cost. These courses will prepare students to earn badges and/or industry certifications.

UE will work with industry leaders – including IBM Enterprise Design Thinking, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Facebook, Tableau and HubSpot – to incorporate the latest technology and industry expertise into its degrees. The courses range from digital skills and marketing, social media, sales and cloud fluency.

Starting from the winter 2021 intake, all new students enrolling with UE at any campus will be able to integrate their degree of choice with a selection of short courses, with no additional fees. Upon completion of the courses and successful completion of the required exams, the students will be awarded badges or certification, giving them the differentiators in a highly competitive technology market.

UE is committed to promoting the future-oriented development of skills and interdisciplinary teaching formats, in step with actual practice and according to the highest international standards. Professor Maurits van Rooijen, Rector at UE, said: “UE is a leading private university in Germany, known for its close relationship with businesses and graduates who are valued by employers.

“Through the interaction among creative, entrepreneurial, and digital thinking, as well as an international perspective, the various fields of study mutually enrich each other and offer new approaches in teaching and research tailored to the requirements of Job Market 4.0.”

“Working with tech industry leaders, with this initiative we make our graduates even more attractive. Following the launch of our Innovation Hub, we continue our evolution towards becoming Germany’s tech-business and design-business university.

A recent global research study by McKinsey[i] has shown the huge impact on employability, earnings and job satisfaction for students who combine a degree with the right skills package. The addition of these industry-powered and certified courses represents UE’s response to the changing expectations of employers.

Companies worldwide are now looking beyond workers specialized in one subject. Instead, they search for “T-shaped” professionals who can add a broad experience in different disciplines to the deep knowledge in one specific field.

“Technologies, global trends and international mobility are affecting business education, which now needs to prepare students for a more complex and varied landscape. By adding additional expertise via these certifications, our students will gain further knowledge and become even more employable early on in their career,” added Professor Johannes Kiessler, Programme Director for Innovation Design Management.

UE to offer students ‘Designing Services and Products with Artificial Intelligence’ course by the Royal College of Art

University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has announced a collaboration with the Royal College of Art (RCA) to offer one of the world’s first Designing Services and Products with Artificial Intelligence courses as part of their postgraduate degree programmes at UE, with no additional costs.

This 9-week online/offline hybrid course developed and taught by the RCA faculties and alumni with delivery support from UE, gives students a strategic and applied understanding of the design principles supporting human-to-human-to-AI interactions. This will be used to generate AI ecosystems that lead to the development of AI products and services.

The course blends theoretical and practical units that teach how to deploy AI for fostering innovation through creativity, pursuing career ambitions and, most importantly, for developing a responsible, inclusive, accessible and sustainable strategy to AI innovation through design. UE students will benefit and develop skills by experimenting with AI creatively to support the development of an individual project.

Starting from the winter semester 2021, all new students enrolling on MA Visual Experience Design, MA New Media Design and MA Innovation Design Management at any of UE campuses will be able to integrate their main degree programme with the Designing Services and Products with Artificial Intelligence course from the RCA, with no additional fees.

UE is committed to promoting the future-oriented development of skills and interdisciplinary teaching formats, in step with actual practice and according to the highest international standards. Thomas Noller, UE’s Vice-Rector International and Academic Development, said: “By learning what possibilities AI offers and how to deal with them creatively, our students acquire core competencies that, in combination with their studies at UE, best prepare them for work in practice.

“How AI innovations can be harnessed in service and product design are questions that have special priority in today’s academic education. I am therefore very pleased that we are now working together with one of the best design schools in our new UE Innovation Hub in Potsdam.”

Dr Laura Ferrarello, MRes Design Pathway Leader at the Royal College of Art said: “We are delighted to collaborate with UE to offer this programme to the students in Germany. With a global society looking for new strategic solutions to tackle and address complex issues, such as pandemics and climate change, this course brings UE students in the RCA’s knowledge and experience in design strategies that use AI technologies to nurture their ambition and motivation, to transform and shape society through their creative talent”.

UE receives FIBAA system accreditation

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has received system accreditation from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) and thus the right to award the seal of the Accreditation Council itself for the study programmes it audits.

As such, UE joins the ranks of the few private universities in Germany that bear this seal of quality. The subject of the successful system accreditation is an outstanding internal quality assurance system of the university.

UE has established a comprehensive and convincing quality management system and has proven its effectiveness, according to the decision of the FIBAA Accreditation and Certification Commission.

Furthermore, the commission praised the strong dialogue approach of the QM system, which is coordinated and exemplified by the staff of the Office of University Development and Quality Management. They ensure a continuous flow of information in all departments, which forms the cornerstone of a living quality culture, the report continues.

Professor Dr Maurits van Rooijen, Rector of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, was pleased about the award from the external commission and sees the UE University in an excellent position for the future. He said: “The system accreditation is a big step for UE towards establishing innovative study programmes. We are very proud to be among the few private universities that have managed to be awarded so highly for their quality.”

In addition to the qualitative confirmation of teaching, the university will now be able to react even more flexibly to the needs of the economy and the job requirements of
tomorrow.

“We are in close exchange with our practical partners from the economy and creative industries and can now incorporate new developments in the labour markets into UE study programmes even more quickly, thus equipping our students in the best possible way with
appropriate job skills and preparing them for their everyday working lives,” Rector van Rooijen explained further.

Along with the opening of the new Potsdam campus, UE Innovation Hub, the system accreditation is an important milestone for the university, which will thus further expand its
presence.
