SU Welcomes International Students

Currently, 2348 international students are pursuing their studies at Satbayev University. The event was organized to help students from abroad feel more at home on campus, build connections with their peers, and gain a deeper understanding of the country they now call their home away from home.

The evening featured live performances of traditional kui music on the dombra, offering international students an opportunity to discover one of the most distinctive elements of Kazakhstan’s musical heritage. Guests also sampled traditional Kazakh dishes and took part in national games, including asyq atu and toǵyzqumalaq, experiencing the country’s cultural traditions firsthand.

The event also provided a platform for cross-cultural exchange. International students introduced their fellow participants to the customs, traditions, and cultural heritage of their home countries, fostering mutual understanding and encouraging dialogue among representatives of different nations.

A special English-language session was dedicated to the life and scientific legacy of Academician Kanysh Satbayev. Participants learned about his pioneering contributions to geology and his instrumental role in the development of science in Kazakhstan.

The “Welcome to Kazakhstan!” initiative is part of the broader Study in Kazakhstan campaign led by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The campaign aims to promote Kazakhstan as an attractive destination for international students and contribute to the country’s development as a leading academic and scientific hub in Central Asia, in line with the priorities outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“We want every student who arrives in Kazakhstan to pursue higher education to feel at home,” said Satbayev University Vice-Rector Professor Sapar Shalabayev. “It is important that international students receive a high-quality education, make new friends, discover our culture, and have the opportunity to share their own traditions with us. Today’s students will become important bridges between our countries in the future.”

Through initiatives such as “Welcome to Kazakhstan!”, Satbayev University continues to foster an inclusive and welcoming campus environment where cultural diversity, international dialogue, and mutual understanding are integral to student life.
