“E-Waste Entrepreneur” Concept to Improve The E-Waste Management

As technology has been becoming more and more integrated into every aspect of our lives, the amount of electronic waste (e-waste) produced each day is increasing enormously. Thus, recycling and managing e-waste have become the attention of the world. However, only a small amount of e-waste all across the world was documented and recycled properly.

In response to this problem, Reynaldo Arya, a student of Law President University batch 2018 proposed an “E-Waste Entrepreneur” concept in the ITB Model United Nations (MUN) that was held in Courtyard Marriot, Bandung. Held by one of the most prestigious state universities in Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, the event was held on 31 January – 2 February 2020. Reynaldo who represented Germany won the “Outstanding Delegate” award in the United Nations Environmental Programme Council.

According to Reynaldo, education is one of the key factors in improving e-waste management. “I think that by educating the proper standard towards the informal sector of the e-waste recyclers and collector, we would be able to collect and recycle e-waste better,” said Aldo.

He mentioned that introducing the “E-Waste Entrepreneur” to society will increase the number of e-waste collectors. It is saving the environment while increasing the employment rates at the same time. In addition, the poor way to recycle e-waste that could harm human health and the environment will also disappear.
