    Creating Lemon Basil Shampoo, FKp Students Win Silver Medal at 2019 World Invention Technology Expo

    UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA NEWS – Students of Faculty of Nursing (FKp)  Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have just won second place in an international competition, World Invention Technology Expo (Wintex) held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Jakarta on Wednesday-Saturday, October 9-12.

    From the finding that humans can lose 50 to 100 strands of hair each day, the team consisting of Yuliani Puji Lestari (2016); Dita Fajrianti (2016); Tantya Edipeni Putri (2016); Afita Nur Dwiyanti (2016) created an innovative shampoo made of natural ingredients. “We are taking part in the product innovation competition in the form of natural shampoo, OCU: Beauty and Natural Shampoo,” said Tantya.

    The shampoo innovation uses natural ingredient, lemon basil. Basil leaves can significantly overcome the problem of hair loss and dandruff.

    “We found another information on lemon basil leaves that is not widely known. It turns out that basil leaves contain high essential oils, vitamin A and minerals, “she said.

    The ingredients are for anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal for the scalp. Antibacterial can kill bacteria, while antifungal acts as an antifungal agent for the scalp.

    Furthermore, this plant overcomes dandruff problems, and scalp damage which is the main cause of hair loss. The collaboration of these substances is useful to eradicate bacteria and fungi on the scalp caused by excessive sweating.

    Tantya admitted that the competition was very tight and the participants not only come from students . “We also compete with several companies engaged in the field of technology and product innovation,” she said.

    Although the product still requires various improvements, the achievement brought positive energy and optimism for the team. She said her team will take care of the copyright of this product in the future. “We will take care of the copyright from our products,” she said.

    Tantya hoped the achievement can inspire other students. “We hope we could inspire the students to try new things and participate in various competitions, “she said. (*)
