21st International Volunteer Corps

On Monday, July 6, the university held the '21st International Volunteer Corps Commissioning Mass' at Chapel of the Sacred Heart(C) to encourage students setting out for local volunteer activities in Laos.

The 21st International Volunteer Corps is a program designed to help students cultivate global citizenship and a spirit of community by practicing the founding philosophy of 'Respect for Humanity' and the educational motto of 'Truth, Love, and Service' in international settings.

This year's volunteer corps comprises 66 members in total—57 student volunteers and 9 dedicated staff members. They will conduct volunteer activities at Somsa-Ngeun Primary School in Vientiane, Laos, for 11 days and 10 nights from Tuesday, July 7 to Friday, July 17.

The corps will run educational programs for local primary school students, including Taekwondo classes, Korean language and K-culture experiences, and foundational math and science education. They also plan to improve the educational environment and carry out cultural exchange activities through classroom remodeling, sports days, cultural festivals, and health and hygiene education.

During the commissioning mass, EDEN Alternative Korea, Inc. presented a donation to support the successful activities of the 21st International Volunteer Corps. The donated funds will be utilized to support the corps' local educational and volunteer efforts.

The 21st International Volunteer Corps adds special significance by providing non-governmental human and cultural exchange support as Laos approaches its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

Building on the bond built with Somsa-Ngeun Primary School over the past five years, the university plans to continue supporting educational infrastructure and maintaining ongoing exchanges to practice the values of sharing and social contribution.
