Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) just held an event titled ‘Omen Campus Legends’ (OCL). This e-sport tournament was divided into two sessions: a talk show with the theme of “Gaming Industry 101” and game tournaments of PUBG and DOTA 2. It invited several speakers, which were Erlangga Putra (Chairperson of Indonesian Electronic Sports Association), Mutiara Donna Visca (Omen Brand Ambassador), Richard Ferdinant (a representative from AJCUI e-sport community), Rio and Eston (Boom E-sport). This event was held for the first time at B Hall, Campus 1 Semanggi, on Tuesday, 15th October 2019. Besides AJCUI students, students from other universities in Indonesia also participated in this tournament.
Elisabeth Rukmini, S.Si., M. Sc., Ph.D., the Vice-Rector IV of AJCUI, enthusiastically opened the OCL tournament. “I believe that everyone who is participating in this event does not only come to play games but also has things to achieve. Therefore, all of you must be professional to be the best. Based on research, e-sport can stimulate our brain and develop our problem-solving skills and reduce aging.”
The OCL tournament provided facilities for visitors to try most recent gaming innovations from Hewlett-Packard (HP), including OMEN X25 (first dual-screen gaming laptop in the world), OMEN 15 Laptop, and HP Pavilion Gaming, for free.
One of AJCUI students, Renaldi Marceliano Nubatonis, supported this event and was completely satisfied with the provided facilities. “I support that this event is held again in the future because it can add more knowledge about gaming, especially e-sport in Indonesia,” he said.
The Omen Challenger Series is open to students from five Southeast Asian countries, and one of them is Indonesia. The tournament invites the best teams from 12 countries, and the winner will go to the grand final and compete with participants from other universities (State University of Jakarta, Tarumanegara University, BINUS University, and Multimedia Nusantara University). The grand final will be held at Incometech Hall C, Jakarta, on 1-3 November 2019.
