The University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Dubai launches Women in Tech Scholarship

Celebrating Emirati Women’s Day, the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Dubai (UE Dubai), a top ranked German university and the first German university to establish a campus in UAE, announced today the inauguration of the Women in Tech Scholarship, reinforcing its commitment to empowering and bolstering women in the Emirates in their pursuit of careers in the dynamic fields of science and technology.

The Women in Tech Scholarship is open for enrolment in the Winter 2023 and Summer 2024 terms and targets applicants interested in joining the Masters of Science programmes, either Data Science or Software Engineering, scheduled to commence in October 2023. Through these cutting-edge programmes, students will acquire skills vital to navigating big data, emerging technologies, cloud computing, and machine learning. This opportunity is open to UAE nationals or residents who meet entry requirements.

A panel of experienced professors will meticulously oversee the selection process, evaluating academic and professional achievements to ensure scholarships are awarded to the most deserving candidates. The UE Dubai Women in Tech scholarship supports and empowers Emirati women, both nationals and residents of the UAE, in their scientific pursuits ensuring they are at the forefront of technological advancements and innovations. The scholarship aims to address gender disparities prevalent in science and technology, and addressed by the 2023 World Economics Forum Reports. Just 29.2% of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workers are women, and while they make up 29.4% in entry-level roles, these figures drop considerably in high-level leadership positions such as VP & C-suite.

Voicing her support for the Women in Tech Scholarship, Raja Al Al Mazrouei, CEO of Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI) commented: “In a world marked by ongoing advancements in science and technology across diverse sectors, including the domain of digital transformation and FinTech, the inclusion of more talented women is paramount. GUS Germany GmbH announces scholarship for earthquake victims from Turkey and Syria

Leading German educational institutions, University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE), Berlin School of Business and Innovation (BSBI) and GISMA University of Applied Sciences (GISMA), is pleased to announce the launch of a scholarship programme aimed at young people affected by the devasting earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. UE, BSBI and GISMA are part of GUS Germany GmbH’s (GGG) network of institutions.

·  The scholarship covers the entire tuition fees with the start of studies in 2023/24

·  Aimed at giving young people the opportunity to rebuild

The initiative aims to provide hope to the affected students and support their aspirations to rebuild their homes and regions. The scholarship covers the entire tuition fees for any course of study at the partnering institutions starting from the academic years 2023 and 2024. The scholarship is available to students who have been affected by the earthquake and can demonstrate their ability to contribute to the reconstruction efforts in their home region.

“We believe that education, among other things, is crucial in the reconstruction and further development of Turkey and Syria. Through this scholarship, we aim to empower affected students by providing them with the opportunity to access education and play a role in the rebuilding of their homes and regions. University of Europe for Applied Sciences is official university partner of Borussia Dortmund

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) is now an official university partner of Borussia Dortmund. The partnership gives UE students exclusive insights into the management of one of Europe’s biggest football clubs.

Professor Dr Maurits van Rooijen, Rector of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, describes the new cooperation as follows: “I am very pleased that Borussia Dortmund, one of the most likeable and renowned football clubs, is now the official university partner of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences. The cooperation makes it possible for our students to gain an early insight into the most diverse areas of a globally active football club. I am sure that our current and future students at all our campuses will benefit from this partnership and learn a lot. You can’t get a better link between theory and practice.”

Students look behind the scenes of the professional club

With the cooperation sealed in July 2022, UE students can gain insights into the work of BVB, get to know well-known BVB personalities and benefit from the experiences of BVB employees. To this end, guest lectures by BVB employees will be held at the UE campus over the next two years, giving students an insight into various BVB departments. In the future, BVB legends, such as long-time BVB goalkeeper and German World Champion 2014 Roman Weidenfeller recently, will also be guests at UE events and show how sport and business can be combined. The highlight of the cooperation is a BVB scholarship.

BVB sees the university cooperation with UE as forward-looking: “In all professional areas, it is always about talent and retaining it. The University of Europe for Applied Sciences announces cooperation with Magnum Photos

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has announced it has partnered with the renowned photo agency Magnum Photos with immediate effect. As part of this partnership, Magnum Photos will offer two workshops a year for UE students in Berlin and Hamburg, with the aim to bring Magnum and aspiring photographers together to learn from each other.

With this cooperation, UE continues its collaboration with leading Industry partners and underlines its expertise in the field of practice-oriented sciences.

Long-term cooperation with Magnum Photos

Commenting on the cooperation, Heike Ollertz, Dean of the Faculty of Art & Design and Professor of Photography and New Media at UE, said: “With Magnum Photos, we now have the world’s most renowned photo agency at our side and can give our students the best insight into the practical side of their studies.

“The cooperation with Magnum Photos is designed for the long term for our UE locations in Berlin and Hamburg and brings our young photographers early in contact with international and very successful professionals from the practice.”

Personalised support from internationally recognised photographers

UE students will receive one-to-one support and feedback from renowned photographers including Nanna Heitmann and Yael Martínez, who will lead the September workshop at UE. Nanna Heitmann, who has won the World Press Photo Award, among others, is a German-Russian documentary photographer currently living in Moscow. Mexican photographer, Yael Martínez, has established himself through group exhibitions in America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He was also recently announced as a World Press Photo winner. Works by both have been published in a number of high-profile publications including TIME Magazine, National Geographic, Stern and Vogue.

Sonia Jeunet, Education Director of Magnum Photos, added: “We are delighted to launch a partnership with the University of Europe for Applied Sciences through our first workshop aimed at the photographers from their campuses in Germany. This collaboration contributes to our mission of offering photographic education to practitioners at different stages in their careers.”

The first exclusive workshop for UE students, including lectures, will take place at the beginning of September as part of Berlin Photo Week. Here, participants will photograph according to Magnum photographers’ specifications, perform editing and sequencing exercises, participate in group critiques, receive constructive feedback and learn the basics of the editorial market.

Magnum Photos will host another workshop for UE students later in the year.
