Professor of NTU «KhPI» works as visiting expert at University of Azerbaijan

Ihor Kononenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of Project Management in Information Technology Department at NTU «KhPI», has been invited to cooperate with the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. The program includes two courses of lectures and a scientific seminar «Formalising the formation of the project team» dedicated to the role of information technology in project management. The period of Ihor Kononenko’s stay at the University of Azerbaijan as a visiting professor is one semester.

Ihor Kononenko, a leading expert at NTU «KhPI», is giving two lecture courses: «Project Management» and «Organizational Behavior». They are addressed to the students of the Project Management Department of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AUAC), who are studying under the MBA (Master of Business Administration) top management program.

On December 5, a seminar “Formalization of Project Team Formation” was held for professors, lecturers of the department and masters. The materials of the report were based on the joint scientific developments of Ihor Kononenko, Professor of Kharkiv Polytechnic, and his graduate student Hlib Sushka.

The seminar focused on the impact of project team composition on the final quality of the product. Professor Kononenko presented a mathematical model that optimizes the process of selecting potential candidates. He emphasized that traditional ways of forming a project team do not guarantee an effective result. The reason is the uncertainty of the initial data when assessing the professional competence of dozens or even hundreds of applicants. This is where mathematical models and information technology methods come in handy to identify the most useful project team members and form a harmonious group.

At the end of the seminar, the lecturer from Kharkiv Polytechnic demonstrated the work of a mathematical model in forming an IT project team and optimizing its composition. He also predicted how further research in this area could develop.

This is the second collaboration between Igor Kononenko, professor of NTU «KhPI», and AUAB as a invited expert. For the first time, he visited the university in the spring semester of 2024: he gave lectures, as well as conducted a business game with students called «Interview with a Candidate for a Vacant Position» and a scientific seminar «Models and Methods for Synthesizing an Approach to Project Management». Together with Azerbaijani colleagues, a scientific article «Solving the Problem of Ranking Project Team Candidates with Fuzzy Assessment of Competencies and Requirements» was published and indexed in Scopus.

To support the military: Scientists of National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» held a master class on eco-packaging

One of the most urgent problems in war time is providing quality food for the army and civilians in conditions of inappropriate storage. And scientists of NTU «KhPI» are working on it. Within the framework of the joint project of the general pharmacy department of Kharkiv Polytechnic and the University of Cardiff (UK), a master class on the production of eco-packaging based on bee products (beeswax wrappers) was held. The event was attended by volunteers, as well as teachers and students of the NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute».

The leaders of the project from NTU «KhPI» were scientists from the general pharmacy department of the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of NTU «KhPI»: head of the department Igor Grubnyk and associate professor Yulia Yudina. According to them, beeswax wrappers have been used since ancient times to extend the storage life of food. «We have improved this technology and adapted it to modern requirements, and we are now working on improving its antibacterial properties. Our packaging is made of environmentally friendly natural products, reusable and can serve for up to a year. It is biodegradable and has no impact on the environment, unlike plastic. In addition, it can be made independently from materials that are available in any household,» the scientists of the NTU «KhPI» emphasised.

Volunteers also noted the benefits of this development: «We are trying to create balanced food packages for the military and civilians, taking into account all their needs, but still quite a lot of food spoils under the influence of natural conditions. The presented development can be very useful, especially for those who are close to the frontline, where there are no conditions for normal storage of food,» noted volunteer Victoria Kravchenko.

Note:

In Ukraine, the L’Oréal-UNESCO competition «For Women in Science» has been held for 5 years in a row. Its goal is to recognize the most outstanding women researchers who make a huge contribution to the development of science in Ukraine. The prize expands the opportunities for women in science and overcomes gender stereotypes, supports the recognition of talented scientists, and encourages them to choose scientific professions.

The abbreviation STEM means «Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics». These areas are the basis of this educational methodology. At the same time, these disciplines are not studied separately, as usual, but in a complex. The practical application of the acquired knowledge is of great importance. The child not only learns about new areas of development in the exact sciences and engineering, but also learns to implement what he or she has learned in practice.
