    SMRI, UiTM strives to build Impactful Collaboration between Academia & Industry

    The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti TeknologiMARA (UiTM),Malaysia, launched the Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI) during their first Symposium on Academia-Industry Collaboration on 24th September 2019 at Bluewave Hotel, Shah Alam, Selangor,Malaysia. In his opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, Prof. Emeritus Ir. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim, highlighted that “SMRI will serve as a leading provider of consultancy and technology research services to meet the needs of the local and international industries”.

    “The main aim of the  symposium is to create, promote and bridge the gap of the academia-industry collaboration, and we hope that it will expand the networking among innovators, academicians, researchers  and industry players” , exclaimed the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Ir. Dr. Muhammad Azmi Ayubin his welcoming speech.
    This symposium received strong support from the country’s main Industry players. Some of the giant players in the field include Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) as the main sponsor, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad, MSC Software, Dagang NeXchange Berhad (DNeX), Amantronic Sdn Bhd, 3D GENS Sdn. Bhd, ACM EV Systems Sdn Bhd, BrightstarOil Sdn Bhd, Intekma Engineering Sdn. Bhd and Aliran Tek(M) Sdn. Bhd. The involvement of all the sponsors in the event shows proof of the strong partnership between FKM, UiTM and the industry players.  
    During the symposium, a forum entitled “Construction of Impactful Academic and Industrial Collaboration” was moderated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UiTM(Academic & International Affairs), Prof. Ts. Dr. Haji Mohamad Kamal Haji Harun. Other reputable speakers include Prof. Keith Ridgeway, Executive Dean of Advanced Manufacturing Research Center, (AMRC) Group, University of Sheffield, UK; Mr.Nizmar Mohd Nazar, Chief Technical Officer  of  MARii; Dato’ Dr. Ir. Mohd Abdul Karim bin Abdullah, Group Managing Director & CEO of SerbaDinamik Holdings Berhad and Mr. Rushdi Abdul Rahim, Senior Vice President of MIGHT.

    9 MoUs were signed between Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UiTM and Intekma Engineering Sdn Bhd, Brightstar Oil Sdn Bhd, Amantronic Sdn Bhd, Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd, KDU University College, 3D Gens SdnBhd, Leigh Aerosystem (M), Dagang NeX Berhad and ACM EV Systems Sdn Bhd. This collaboration will produce beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders and will create the future industry leaders and generate creative solutions to the challenges of our time in setting a bold path for a sustainable, healthy, secure, connected and creative humanity.
