    New Chief Scientist for South Australia – Professor Caroline McMillen

    Industry and Skills Minister David Pisoni has affirmed Professor Caroline McMillen as South Australia’s new Chief Scientist, beginning this October 2018.

    Professor McMillen who is currently the Vice Chancellor and President of the University of Newcastle, was instrumental in the economic growth of Newcastle through compelling undertakings with industry and the development of innovation hubs to drive collaborations between industry, researchers, start-ups and investors.

    Minister Pisoni, who congratulated Professor McMillen on her appointment also expressed his excitement on witnessing the impact of her experience in research and science in South Australia. Professor McMillen’s insights and experience at the interface of research and industry will be critical as the South Australian economy continues to progress and as Lot Fourteen is transformed into a top-notch innovation hub.

    Recognised as the ‘science state’, South Australia is home to several world’s outstanding scientists. It is their passion for discovering and commitment to innovation that are advancing new elements for the global communities. South Australia acknowledges the importance of STEM education and research in new industries, new jobs and skills and a robust economy; and Professor McMillen is committed to be playing a role in supporting this mission.
