Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has been on the run in achieving continuous excellences amidst the dynamically challenging environment since it was established as a public technical university by the Malaysian government on 16 February 2002. Certainly, UMP celebrated another milestone anniversary last month, marking a closer step in fulfilling its vision to be a distinguished technological university. UMP has been the leader within the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN), which is made up of four technological universities in Malaysia though.
“UMP will continuously value glories by emphasizing the following five strategic focuses: academic excellence, financial sustainability, excellence in research and innovation, brand excellence, as well as sustainability in socio-economic and environment,” said Professor Dato’ Seri Ts. Dr. Daing Mohd Nasir Bin Ibrahim, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of UMP at the meeting of UMP VC mandate delivery, which was held at UMP Sports Complex, Gambang Campus on February 19, 2019.
Under the reign of Dato’ Seri Daing, UMP became the first MTUN university to secure a top 200 spot (#188th) in the 2019 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings and attain QS 5-star overall rating, both of which reflect the quality of its teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community services. Furthermore, UMP also achieved five-star ratings from the Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA), the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA), the Ministry of Higher Education Star Ratings (MyMoheS), and the Financial Management Excellence based on the Malaysian Auditor-General’s Accountability Index in the recent years.

A crowd exceeding 5,000 people, mainly the UMP community including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), turned up to listen to his speech, themed – ‘Celebrating the Success, Engaging the Industry, Nurturing Entrepreneurship.’
