Satbayev University & QUST Launch Joint School

In strategic partnership with Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), Satbayev University (SU) opened the School of China-Kazakhstan Information Engineering, Qingdao, PRC. The inaugural cohort of 188 students, comprising 150 undergraduate and 38 master’s degree candidates, has already commenced its studies.

Operating alongside the school, the newly inaugurated China-Kazakhstan International Joint Laboratory for Information Technology serves as a premier collaborative platform for advanced scientific research and technological innovation.

The joint school holds historic regulatory significance as the first Kazakh university branch to officially secure an educational operating license from China’s Ministry of Education, valid through 2040 - a culmination of over a year of intensive institutional negotiations.

The grand opening ceremony brought together key leaders and policymakers from both nations. During the official ceremonies, representatives met directly with the incoming cohort to discuss upcoming academic, scientific, and technological projects. Students received official student ID cards, commemorative SU gifts, and participated in informal dialogues with faculty and leadership.

While Kazakhstan has traditionally focused on attracting top foreign institutions to establish domestic campuses, this launch in Qingdao illustrates a powerful reverse trajectory: a leading Kazakh technical university projecting its engineering heritage and academic expertise onto the international stage.
