    UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA STUDENTS WON UN-HABITAT 2018 INTERNATIONAL URBAN DESIGN COMPETITION

    A team from Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia is one of the three winners in UN-Habitat 2018 International Urban Design Competition. The proposal entitled “Turtle Hill Creative Industrial Park” is designed by Muhammad Syahmi Sallehudin, Hani Nabilah Abdul Rahman and Nabila Shahida Mohammad Shah for a vacant waterfront site located in Wuhan inner-city, at the confluence of Yangtze and Han Rivers. The team had earned three tickets to Wuhan, China to join the public space training and workshop on 9 and 10 December 2018 and will receive their winner certificate on 11 December 2018.

    The competition is part of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Wuhan Land Use and Spatial Planning Research Center (WLSP) programme “People Oriented Urban Public Spaces” for China. The competition focuses on 5 general themes: Improving and innovating urban public spaces; Revitalization of waterfront spaces; Revalorizing industrial heritage; Socially inclusive and compact inner-city centers; Creating new tourism destinations. These themes occur in the context of rapidly developing metropolitan cities with historical centers, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs), and the New Urban Agenda. The competition is open to international students of Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and other relevant disciplines internationally.
