Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Ningxia University Partnership Exposes Students to Intelligent Technologies

As a part of our internationalization initiatives, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Malaysia collaborates with different international higher education institutions worldwide to conduct mobility projects for not only its staff, but also students. Specifically, the faculty is working diligently to increase the number of inbound and outbound students. Besides, the faculty is also striving to embrace diverse participating institutions from various countries, bringing together a blend of cultures into learnings. In 2018 alone, the faculty has received a total of 22 inbound students from China, Indonesia, and Germany.

In the same year, the faculty has sent 48 students outbound; 26 of them, accompanied by Dr Ahmad Fitri Bin Yusop (Visiting Lecturer), went to Ningxia University, China for one semester. During their stay at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Ningxia University, they had a chance for joining an industrial visit to one of the biggest manufacturing companies, viz. Kocel Group Limited in Ningxia. The company’s primary industrial products include casting (iron, steel and other metals), machinery manufacturing (intelligent machines, moulds, precision machining, machine tools, etc.), chemical (furfural, furfuryl alcohol, resin, curing agent, coating, etc.), and steel structures. Besides, the company also provides related products and complete solutions.

To elaborate, the company has been widely implementing intelligent technologies in its manufacturing lines of processes, all of which result in a more significant intervention on the company’s aim towards (i) time and cost savings, (ii) higher production rates, and (iii) high production line efficiencies. This implementation is matched with the company’s mission of achieving higher quality developmental endeavour together building the dream of the powerful foundry industry internationally. UMP, as an educational and research institution focusing on Engineering and Technology, aspires to continuously provide world-class education, research, and services in an ecosystem of using creative and innovative engineering and technology, particularly to maximize the human potential for societal good. We nurture our students to be the task force (leaders) of the future innovation-related industry. This visit is one of such initiatives.
