Universitas Airlangga Students Win in APPS 2018 in Japan

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) always encourages its academics to showcase their scientific works abroad. On Friday, August 17, three UNAIR students from Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) managed to win in three categories at Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium (APPS) event at Showa University, Fujiyoshida, Japan.

APPS is an annual event organized by the Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO). APRO is a part of IPSF in charge of implementing all IPSF programs in the Asia Pacific region. APPS is aimed to provide opportunities for Asia Pacific regional pharmacy students to interact and share knowledge about the development and education of pharmaceutical science.

Tri Wahyudi, a student of class 2017 Faculty of Pharmacy, was one of UNAIR delegates with two other students, Wildhani Alfianna, class 2015 and Wanda Brilianty, class 2017. “From the competition we managed to win in three categories,” he said.

From several categories, UNAIR delegation won Most Favorite Poster in APPS 2018 Pharmaceutical Poster Competition. In addition, they also won 1st place for Advance Patient Counseling Event and 1st place for Clinical Skill Event Jeopardy. Both of them were won by Wildhani Alfanna.

The 17th APPS event was attended by 370 pharmacy students throughout Asia Pacific. The participants were involved in a variety of events such as educational symposiums, workshops, field trips, public health awareness campaign, themed social events, and competitions.

“The competition includes clinical events, patient counseling events, industrial case competitions, and pharmaceutical poster competitions,” he added.

Regarding the poster competition, Tri claimed that he did not expect to win because out of the 14 finalists, his team was the only one whose research did not require laboratory experiments. His team only discussed about public health and community pharmacy.

“The other teams use topics that are based on research for the discovery of new drugs and materials that have the potential to be used as drugs,” he added.

UNAIR delegation was the delegation with the most achievements in APPS 2018. The poster from UNAIR students was well regarded by the judges and received much appreciation until the other delegations asked for the soft copy of the poster. (*)
