    UniMAP to offer Malay Language at HDU via China-Malaysia Silk Road Centre

    Hangzhou Province, 11 June 2019 –University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objectives of  strengthening the transfer of expertise, boost research activities between the two universities and increase student and staff mobility engagements. UniMAP was represented by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. R. Badlishah Ahmad while HDU was represented by its President, Prof. Zhu Zefei.

    To start the ball rolling, UniMAP will offer Malay Language as an elective course at HDU. In addition, HDU’s first China-Malaysia SiLK Road Centre will be established at UniMAP which will serve as a gateway to support and promote the development of Malay and Chinese Language education, amplify collaborative research in telecommunications and augmented reality (AR) and increase commercialization of research products. Prof. Dr. R. Badlishah Ahmad said discussions with HDU began several months ago, through UniMAP Centre of Excellence for Advanced Sensor Technology (CEASTech) and the Centre for International Languages (CIL).

    The MoU signing, held at the HDU, was witnessed by CEASTech Representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Latifah Munirah Kamarudin, and Dean of Centre for International Languages (CIL) Dr. Sharmini Abdullah from UniMAP, and Vice President International Cooperation Prof. Zheng Ning, Dean of School of Humanities, Digital Art and Law, Director of International Office, Xu Hong, Project Managers of International Office Wu Wei and Fei Chenhan from HDU.

    Administered directly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the provincial government, HDU was founded in 1956 as the second public university in Zhejiang Province. It currently offers study programmes in engineering, economics, sciences, and arts. HDU boasts 40 research institutions and has completed a host of high-tech research projects and province-or-ministry-sponsored research projects, many of which were awarded the National First/Second Prize for Scientific and Technology Progress, the National Invention Prize, and the National Pedagogical Achievement Prize. The university is known as “The Cradle of Entrepreneurs” in China and has an extensive entrepreneurial network worldwide. Prof. Dr. R. Badlishah Ahmad is confident that the MoU marks the beginning of a fruitful relationship that will take the two universities to greater heights.
