UNAIR Institute of Tropical Disease Holds Workshop with Four Institutions

UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA NEWS – After establishing a long-standing partnership with Kobe University, Universitas Airlangga is collaborating again with some institutions. If the previous collaboration with Kobe University was limited to health science, the collaboration they are currently focused on is in form of interdisciplinary workshops.

UNAIR and Kobe University will hold “The First Workshop on Humanities and Sciences Cooperative Research for Implementing Global Welfare”. From UNAIR, this workshop involved one of the institutes in the health sector, the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD).

Not only with Kobe University, this workshop also involves three more institutions, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Victoria University of Wellington. Academics from each institution met UNAIR Rector on Monday, January 7.

The meeting was attended by UNAIR Rector, Prof. Moh Nasih, Vice Rector I Prof. Djoko Santoso, Vice Rector III Prof. Amin Alamsjah, Head of ITD Prof. Inge Lusida, UNAIR leaders, and delegates from Japan.

In the meeting, UNAIR Rector welcomed the guests from Japan. He expressed his joy at the arrival of the academics and hoped they would feel at home in Surabaya. He also hoped that academics can enjoy the workshops and gain useful knowledge.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Community Service, Research and Publication, Prof. Amin Alamsjah revealed that it was an excellent collaboration because it was multidisciplinary and involved many parties.

“So far, we have a long history of cooperation with Japan, especially with Kobe University in terms of health sector. Now we are aiming collaboration with several universities, “explained Prof. Amin.

Prof. Amin said that the results of this workshop could later be more comprehensive in improving the welfare of the community.

This collaboration will involve several faculties, including Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, and other programs related to improving welfare in the health and social fields.

Prof. Amin hoped that after the workshop, UNAIR and institutions from Japan can continue their cooperation between both parties. “I hope from this workshop there will be real collaboration to be conducted this year and the upcoming year. For example, related to research, both managed by the government and managed by UNAIR, as well as staff and student mobility,” explained Prof. Amin. (*)
