The University of Malaya (UM) rose four spots to the 24th place in accordance to QS Asia University Rankings 2018. This is the highest achievement for UM as it competes against 425 universities from 17 nations in Asia. The institution also retained its position as Malaysia’s premier university as it rose 19 positions to the 114th place in the QS World University Rankings 2018.
Following the exceptional attainment by UM, Prof Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud, Acting Vice-Chancellor said “A better rank will help the university to be better known, attract better collaborative partners, staff, and students and thus improve the quality of its graduates, research outputs, and contributions to the country.”
Joining UM in the top 50 QS Asia University Rankings are Universiti Putra Malaysia (36th place), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (43rd place), Universiti Sains Malaysia (46th place) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (49th place).
The nation’s Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh also pointed out that the range of achievements by its universities are indicative of both the nation’s efforts and progression in ensuring the delivery of quality higher education and desire to become a higher education hub.
