    UiTM’s Electrical Engineering collaborate with Crescent Institute, India on Fabrication of Highly Sensitive Humidity Sensor Using Nanotechnology

    A group of 3 researchers, Ir. Ts. Musa Mohamed Zahidi, Mrs. Norfarariyanti Parimon and Ms. Nor Fadzleen Qistina Mohd Fahmi, from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia recently visited B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, India for a collaborative research work. They were hosted by Professor Dr I.B. Shameem Banu and Assistant Professor Dr N. Vasimalai from the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. The program was jointly funded by ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship Program (AIRTF) and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam.

    The group worked on the fabrication of high sensitivity humidity sensors which could be used in applications such as home appliances, weather forecasting, food storage, health monitoring etc. The high sensitivity performance is achieved through advanced nanotechnology by producing a novel nanometer-sized flower-like structure. The highly porous structure is capable of providing optimum water molecules absorption site and efficient electron transfer which are crucial in humidity detection.

    During the 2 months program period of December 2019 – January 2020, they have produced 3 joint research articles which have been submitted for publication in high impact journals. They have also presented their work at the International Seminar on Frontier in Chemistry 2020. The 3 researchers are currently doing their PhD’s and Master’s degree studies under the supervision of Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Hafiz Mamat (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-6640-2366) at the NANO-Electronic Centre (NET), UiTM Shah Alam.
