UiTM Secures International Collaborative Fund for Nanosatellite Development

Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia has been chosen again to lead the Nanosatellite Project in Malaysia. Centre for Satellite Communication from FKE has successfully secured the International Collaborative Fund (ICF) under the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for the project titled “Development of Flight Model (FM) for 1U-Sized Nanosatellite (ASEANSAT) with High Ground Resolution Camera Payload”.

The ASEANSAT is a multination collaboration program involving participants from the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD), Philippines, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand, and Kyushu Institute of Technology (KYUTECH), Japan.

The Nanosatellite to be launched from this project is called UiTMSAT-2, will be the second Nanosatellite developed by UiTM after the success of UiTMSAT-1. This is the very first UiTM’s Nanosatellite to be built locally by utilizing related facilities from other faculties in UiTM, Malaysia Space Agency (MYSA), and NGOs. Carrying the main mission of earth observation, the 1U-sized UiTMSAT-2 is expected to be among the 1U Nanosatellites in the world that provides high ground resolution imagery.

The project headed by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohamad Huzaimy Jusoh has been awarded a grant valued at RM 500,000 for a two-year tenure. The team members are Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari, Ts. Fatimah Zaharah Ali, Ir. Ts. Dr. Fadhlan Hafizhelmi Kamaruzzaman, Ir. Ts. Dr. Azrif Manut and Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Gs. Dr. Norsuzila Yaacob, all from FKE, UiTM. Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr Mohammad Huzaimy’s area of expertise is on nanosatellite development and his publications can be viewed via ORCID link https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8326-9491.
