UiTM Mathematics Professor Presents a Keynote Speech on Solving Fuzzy Decision Making Problem

Prof. Dr. Daud Mohamad, from the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia (UiTM) presented a keynote speech at the International Conference on Mathematical Sciences (ICMS2020), held at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, India on 4th March 2020.

ICMS2020 has been conducted by the Department of Mathematics, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology since 2014. It brings together academicians, scientists, leading engineers, research scholars and students to exchange and share their experiences and research findings on all aspects of Mathematics. Besides, participants are also able to discuss the practical challenges they encounter and the solutions to adopt. One of the distinct outcomes of this conference is for all accepted papers to be published in reputed Scopus indexed journals.

The conference was attended by 200 participants from various countries around the world such as Malaysia, Kuwait and Oman. Prof. Dr. Daud Mohamad spoke about the ‘Integration of Sorensen and Cosine Similarity Measure for Solving Fuzzy Decision Making Problem’. In his sharing, Dr. Daud explained how to eradicate the problem of Cosine similarity and Sorensen similarity. The approach Dr. Daud used was by integrating both approaches based on the variation coefficient representation in a fuzzy environment. He also found that the approach has the advantage of being able to compromise the extreme values produced by the two similarity measures and has the potential to be applied to solving various fuzzy decision-making problems.

Other than Prof. Dr. Daud Mohamad, UiTM was also represented by Associate Prof. Dr. Seripah Awang Kechil who was an invited speaker at the conference. In her sharing, she spoke about ‘Convective Instabilities in Variables – Viscosity Fluid Layer’ where she explained on the factor that alters the dynamics of the surface tension, named surfactants and how it affects the surface tension at the free upper surface. She also presented mathematical models and effects of insoluble surfactant on constant and variable viscosity liquid layer with non-deformable and deformable surfaces.

The conference was a good avenue for academics to share their latest research findings in the mathematics area.
