Prof. Ir. Dr. Zuhaina Zakaria from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia has been appointed as the member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Admission and Advancement (A&A) Committee and IEEE Power & Energy Society Long Range Planning (LRP) Committee with effect from January 2020.
IEEE, a professional association for electronic and electrical engineering and associated disciplines has its corporate office in New York City while its operations center is in Piscataway, New Jersey. Dr Zuhaina Zakaria’s main role in the IEEE A&A committee will be to assist IEEE in implementing policies, rules, and procedures related to admission, grade assignment and grade advancement. For the LRP committee, Dr Zuhaina Zakaria will be involved in planning strategic education initiatives for IEEE Power & Energy Society.
This appointment was based on her vast experience and involvement with IEEE for more than 20 years at both local and regional levels. This is also a recognition to IEEE Malaysia Section as she is the first Malaysian member to be appointed in both committees.
Dr Zuhaina Zakaria, is an active researcher and her main research interests include power quality, load profiling, power system analysis and operation and engineering education. In 2016, she was appointed as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom for a research project investigating the relationship between energy consumption of domestic consumers with energy efficiency. The research identified the main factors underlying consumer behavior towards energy consumption. The outcome of the research is beneficial to power utilities and energy regulators in understanding consumer’s energy consumption.
