    UITM FPM ACADEMIC STAFF INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY AND KNOWLEDGE, EXPERTISE-SHARING IN NEIGHBORING INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING: 2019 ON REFLECTION

    With the closing of 2019, Faculty of Information Management (FPM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Selangor Branch, witnesses five senior academicians signed up for shorter mobility programs of between one and three weeks. Three senior lecturers invited as expert speakers and workshop facilitators in the academic and students’ events at neighboring countries. Neighboring countries such as Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines become the destinations for the FPM academic staff.  The 800% increase in values direction of the FPM outbound activities are beyond expectations, provide a tremendous effect on the FPM’s educational experience, perspectives, and thus, raise the profile of FPM in the field of library and information management.

    The following is the chronology of the outbound activities of the academics:

    • 29 April 2019

    Dr. Mad Khir Johari bin Abdullah Sani

    Visiting Scholar in Universitas Indonesia, Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya, Jawa Barat, Indonesia

    Dr. Khir delivered a lecture on Systematic Review and Inferential Analysis classes at the Postgraduate Program of Library Science, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia.

    Mr. Jafalizan bin Mohd Jali

    Visiting Lecturer in the La Salle University, College of Liberal Arts, History Department, Manila, Philippines

    Mr. Jafalizan actively involved in team teaching for a 3-unit course. He delivered a lecture for the public audience, and conducted discussions on Oral History in Malaysia with the faculty members of the Department of History, and potential research collaborations.

    Dr. Norizan binti Anwar

    Invited Speaker in Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia

    The 2019 Third International Postgraduate Conference on Media and Communication (IPCOMC) held with the theme “Communication 4.0: Strengthening Media and Community through Digital Transformation”. In this event, Dr. Norizan delivered a presentation on regulation in the digital world and social media. Through her performance, she explained several social media regulations that we could pass. The rules made by social media to protect our data and privacy actually must be observed. She also shared the current phenomenon that occurs and the status of regulation in each country. Although the digital world makes the world infinite, it is essential to become wise digital data users with the ability to differentiate and classify the information.

    Dr. Tengku Adil bin Tengku Izhar

    Research Fellow at La Trobe University, Australia

    Dr. Tengku Adil attached two weeks fellowship at La Trobe University, Melbourne. He worked closely with Dr. Torab Torabi, a senior academician at the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. Most of his time spent working in the La Trobe University Maritime Lab were to:

    1. Analyze Maritime Data collaboration between La Trobe University and Pivot Australia.
    2. Work on scenario data for Melbourne Port Maritime Traffic.

    His engagement with research collaboration led to high-quality research. He also involved in La Trobe activities to promote research and research culture.

    Dr. Noor Zaidi bin Sahid

    Visiting Lecturer in Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Prodi Perpustakaan dan Sains Informasi, Bandung

    Dr. Noor Zaidi shared his knowledge on collaborative research in the field of library and information. He also conducted in-class teaching on knowledge management subjects. This visit aimed to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation in the field of library and information science between international universities.

    Associate Professor Dr. Azman bin Mat Isa

    Visiting Professor in Universitas Brawijaya, Faculty of Administrative Science, Malang, Indonesia

    Dr. Azman shared his knowledge and expertise on the strategic roles of Information Governance in meeting the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0. This program was a 3 in 1 program for visiting professors and professionals. One of the internationalization programs that coincide with the 59th Anniversary of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya emphasizes the specificity of study focus and outcomes in the Library Science Study Program under the Department of Public Administration, namely information management.

    Ms. Nik Azliza binti Nik Ariffin

    International Guest Expert Lecture in Politeknik Medica Farma Husada Mataram, Medica Farma Street, Lombok, Indonesia

    Ms. Nik Azliza invited as a speaker in a program known as Expert Lecture in the field of Medical Record & Health Information Management. She delivered a lecture, which entitled “A Paradigm Shift and the Way Forward of Medical Records Services and Benefits and Challenges of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Implementation in Developing Countries.” Medical Record Management is a well-accepted topic of discussion in Indonesia since the Government of the day introduced The Social Health Insurance. She shared her best knowledge with the polytechnic staff, practitioners, diploma students of Pharmacy, students of Medical Laboratory Technology, and students of Medical Record and Health Information.

    Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Noorman bin Masrek

    Invited Speaker in Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia

    Dr. Noorman invited as a speaker for the second International Conference on Vocational Innovation and Applied Sciences 2019. He shared his best knowledge of Informatics, Multimedia and E-learning, and Information System.

    The areas of research and subject interest that covered throughout the outbound activities ranged on the research methodology, collaboration efforts, social media regulations, maritime data collaboration, and strategic role of information governance, informatics, and information systems.  These areas are the main drivers to the development and application of library and information management in the Industrial Revolution 4.0. International mobility programs allow the faculty members to exchange knowledge and expertise, to experience short-term training abroad, and to gain a global perspective on their research areas of interest. Besides the mobility program, the involvement of academic staff with the activities conducted by international universities through invitation increases FPM’s internationalization objective, strengthen inter-university partnerships, and fosters the UiTM’s presence abroad. The global mobility of academics is part of UiTM’s Strategic Plan. Thus, the faculty management and staff should adhere and show commitment to the plan, and command UiTM as one of the leading public universities in Malaysia.
