Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norhaslinda Kamaruddin from the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), was recently appointed as an Adjunct Professor, focusing on data science at Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. The one-year appointment from January 2020 isa great honor for Dr. Norhaslinda as Universitas Airlangga is in the process of developing a new faculty of Advanced and Multidisciplinary Technology that comprises five new programs namely; Data Science Technology, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
With the commencement of the data science program, Universitas Airlangga will become a pioneer institution of higher learning in Indonesia that offers data science at degree level. As an adjunct professor, Dr. Norhaslinda will be responsible to evaluate and give suggestions on the curriculum as well as lesson planning to ensure that graduates will be able to acquire the necessary knowledge and have the ability to apply the knowledge in their preferred industry.
Data science is a new field of study that combines the knowledge from computer science and information technology as well as mathematics and statistical understanding of the depth of any specific domain knowledge. As the data is geMalaysiaMalaysianerated through various channels of digital footprints, relevant insights can be mined to help the stakeholders to make informed decisions. It is estimated that 1.7 MB of data will be created every second for every person on earth in the year 2020. Hence, the development of data professionals is crucial to support the need for various sectors ranging from marketing to the health sector.
Dr. Norhaslinda will also be involved in jointly publishing indexed articles with academics from Universitas Airlangga and co-supervision of students. This is to boost the research and collaboration linkages between these two universities, and also towards the betterment of community well-being. Both universities are also expected to join forces for community social responsibility (CSR) activities to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
Furthermore, Dr. Norhaslinda will be the bridge linking the two universities through impactful projects and collaborations that can benefit not only the university but the community at large. The adjunct professor appointment is also a crucial mark that indicates the strong bond between UiTM and Universitas Airlangga.
Dr. Norhaslinda has published many research papers on affective computing, data analytics, and driver behavior. Her most recent paper entitled Neuro-physiological Porn Addiction Detection using Machine Learning Approach was published in the Indonesian Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
