    UCYP Organizes Workshop on Work Skills Development

    World of Career: Work Skills Development Workshop was organized by UCYP in collaboration with Grad Malaysia, KWSP and Job Malaysia. It was held at the UCYP main campus auditorium at Tanjung Lumpur, on Tuesday, 21st January 2020.

    The program was participated by 202 UCYP students who are about to go for their internship program. The event was joined by UCYP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bin Haji Zainuddin, and the honorable guests, the Marketing Director of GTI Media, Mr.  Alfred Leo Chiang Ming, Job Malaysia Career Consultant, Ms. Umi Kalsom Bt. Kasim, and KWSP Advisor, Mr. Muhammad Afif Bin Muzlan.

    The workshop was conducted in order to prepare students for their internship which is a compulsory program for semester 5 and above students. According to the Vice-chancellor Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bin Haji Zainuddin, World of Career is an effort made by UCYP in order to produce graduates who are equipped with necessary skills that are needed by the job market.

    In his opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor stated: “I believe that this kind of workshop is able to provide and prepare the students with optimum exposure and experience in terms of technology development, effective communication, teamwork practices, policies, procedures and regulations, professional perspective, and reporting.”

    The workshop was divided into slots that focused on aspects that are important for the students’ internship. The 5 slots were resume writing, interview tips, first impression, career path briefing, and briefing on financial and KWSP product planning. Throughout the workshop, the Marketing Director of GTI Media, Mr. Alfred Leo Chiang Ming gave his insight about the necessary skills and knowledge needed for the first 3 slots which were resume writing, interview tips, and first impression. Then, Job Malaysia Career Consultant, Ms. Umi Kalsom Bt. Kasim presented the 4th slot which was the career path briefing followed by the final slot, briefing on financial and KWSP product planning which was delivered by KWSP Advisor, Mr. Muhammad Afif Bin Mulan.

    The students who participated in the workshop have certainly acquired a wide range of knowledge regarding the preparation for their internship. Based on the latest analysis, the employability rate of UCYP graduates is more than 80 percent and there is more than 10 percent of them have been absorbed as employees straight after finishing their internship. Currently, there is a list of more than 500 companies in collaboration with UCYP for student internship. According to the UCYP Vice-Chancellor, it was certainly a good opportunity for UCYP to collaborate with such experienced speakers who came from the industry and were willing to share their perspectives, knowledge and views on job preparation. The Vice-Chancellor also stated, “As an educational institution, I hope that this kind of collaboration can be further strengthened through various partnerships. I strongly believe that smart partnership is capable of generating significant outcomes that can provide benefits to the community.”
