TravelogAD_UiTM Cambodia 3.0 2019 is a programme which was initiated and organized by the Students Welfare Unit from the Faculty of Art & Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM), Malaysia. The main aim of this programme was to build and sponsor water pump ‘Waqaf Well’ for the Muslim community in three selected villages in Cambodia namely, Oprum Village, Mek 3 Village and Toul Por Village.
The programme was held from 15th – 18th November 2019 covering rural and poor housing areas in the shores of the suburbs. A total of ten volunteers constituting senior lecturers, staff, five students from the Faculty of Art and Design, one student from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and one student from the Faculty of Medicine took part in the programme. The programme was funded by donations from corporate donors, mosque donors, staff, faculty members and individuals including the volunteers.
This allowed the construction of 29 pump wells in the three villages which were facing difficulty in accessing clean water. Without clean water, families often end up using dirty water from unmanaged ponds and polluted streams. The lives of the villagers changed and improved as clean water became available. In addition, during this expedition, we managed to hold art workshops for the children in the villages. Art knowledge and some skills were also transfered by expert lecturers to develop children’s talents and creative skills.
Besides, contributions in the form of food, clothing, children’s toys and stationery were also presented to the villagers. The team also spent time playing with the chldren and took photos. Seeing happy faces, made everyone very happy. Said the volunteers “this programme gave us a very meaningful experience.”
