    The Kanda/Atma Jaya Japan Center Opened in Jakarta

    Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, in partnership with Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS), held the opening ceremony of Kanda – Atma Jaya Japan Center at Campus 1 Semanggi on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

    The opening ceremony was attended by Kozo Honsei (Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan), Kuniya Sakai (Rector of KUIS), dr. Agustinus Prasetyantoko (Rector of Atma Jaya University), and several staffs of Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, KUIS, and Language Center (PPB) Atma Jaya.

    The opening ceremony of Kanda – Atma Jaya Japan Center was also held as a part of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Japan – Indonesia diplomatic relations. The Yustinus Auditorium was filled with not only Indonesian guests, but also Japanese guests.

    The ceremony was opened by a video showing from Embassy of Japan about Japan – Indonesia diplomatic relations for these past 60 years. Following that, Mr. Kuniya Sakai as the Rector of KUIS gave an opening remark in Japanese and it was translated into Indonesian by Prof. Funada.

    The Rector of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, dr. Agustinus Prasetyantoko also gave an opening speech which was then followed by Mr. Kozo Honsei. He expressed his hope that the establishment of Kanda – Atma Jaya Japan Center could tighten the relations between Japan and Indonesia.

    “One of missions of our university is to establish languages as the foundation for world peace. I always tell our students that if we learn languages and culture, for sure world peace will follow. We are very happy because Japan Center which was established with Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia is a part of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Japan – Indonesia diplomatic relations. We hope that young people can build the future friendship between the two countries and can give contribution to this world,” said Mr. Kuniya Sakai in his opening speech.

    There was also a Kyogen performance, a Japanese traditional comic theater which is a development of the Sarugaku comedy performance. Aside from that, an idol group established as the cooperation between Japan and Indonesia also livened up this event, they are JKT48.   JKT48 is a sister group of AKB48, the famous Japanese idol girl group. The energetic JKT48 performance at the end acted as a perfect closing for Kanda – Atma Jaya Japan Center opening ceremony.
