    Social Entrepreneurship Marketplace 2019 pre-event: Talk Series

    In the event of welcoming Social Entrepreneurship Marketplace 2019, the Bureau of Marketing, Public Relations and Admission (BMPRA) of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) held a Friday Coffee Break at BSD Campus on Friday, 16 August 2019. The speakers in this event were Handrianus Yovin Karwayu (founder of “Bangflo” and an alumnus of AJCUI Faculty of Engineering) and Handoko Hendroyono (founder and movie producer of “Filosofi Kopi”).

    They were sharing their experiences of being involved in sociopreneurship, specifically in food and beverage sector, to participants who were mostly AJCUI students. They also shared how to develop business in the global era.

    Yovin said, “When we are developing a brand, we do not just sell the product but we should sell the story. Because I am from Flores, I built a brand which can bring up the reputation of Flores and also Indonesia. My wish is that more and more Flores people who go to Jakarta will not just end up being a security or a non-skilled labour, but they can be an entrepreneur like me.

    Bangflo itself is a brand of coffee, culinary and tourist destination which empowers farmers in Flores and encourage Flores human resources to have a skill as baristas.

    Meanwhile, Handoko who launched his fourth book “Brand Artisan” this year, after “Brand Gardener”, “Do” and “Fish Eye” elaborated the meaning of a brand. He said, “A brand which makes many people happy will be a fun brand. A brand which solves problem will be a strong brand and a brand which holds data and attracts interest from public will be a firm brand.”

    Furthermore, Handoko also gave suggestion to start with why before how. Be authentic so that it is not easy to imitate and be open to collaboration. He shared how he used film as a promotional media for his film “Filosofi Kopi”.

    As a person who cares about local brand, Handoko also initiated M Bloc (IG: @mbkocspace), which is a creative and music hub which promotes local brands by renovating a warehouse. He also initiated KebunIde at Bintaro (IG: @kebunide), a serve-from-farm-to-table concept restaurant which also gives room for public or communities to learn making gelato, sewing and gardening.

    Through this activity, Yovin and Handoko gave inspiration to all students to never stop contributing for Indonesia through their works.
