SMU Master of IT in Business ranked 1st in Asia and 11th worldwide

The Singapore Management University’s (SMU) School of Information Systems (SIS) has proven itself to be home to one of the world’s best Masters in Business Analytics programmes according to the QS Masters in Business Analytics Rankings 2019. The School’s Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme was ranked 1st in Asia and 11th worldwide out of 75 Masters in Business Analytics programmes from 17 countries around the globe.

This is the first time that SIS participated in the rankings, with the MITB programme ranking in the top 20 places for three out of six indicators. The programme was ranked 6th worldwide for alumni outcomes; 8th worldwide for graduate employability; and tied 19th equal worldwide for diversity. Its scores (out of 100) were above the global average for all three indicators: alumni outcomes 89.4 (global average 56.4); employability 78.3 (global average 49.8); and diversity 72.0 (global average 66.1).

The QS Alumni Outcomes Index looks at the schools and universities associated with thousands of CEOs, executives and board members at the most respected and recognized companies in the world. To do this QS evaluates more than 150 global and regional lists, including the Forbes 2000, the FT Global 500, top social media influencers, and various specialist publications. Alumni Outcomes reflect 20% of the total ranking score.

The QS Global Employer Survey, which has been running since 1990, asks employers from which schools they prefer to hire business school graduates. Between 2013 and 2018, QS collected more than 200,000 responses from global employers on this question. QS analyses all of these responses and weights certain votes more than others depending on the particular ranking. Employability reflects 30% of the total ranking score.

The QS Diversity Indicator reflects the diversity of nationality and gender of the student body and faculty. Diversity reflects 10% of the total ranking score.

Dean, School of Information Systems, Professor Pang Hwee Hwa commented, “This ranking reflects and reinforces the global stature of the SMU School of Information Systems and the Master of IT in Business in particular. For a university and programme which are relatively young by world standards, this is a significant achievement. Launched in 2007, our MITB programme has gone from strength to strength through our continual effort to harmonize our curriculum with the skills needed in the industry. Our diverse graduates are highly sought after by employers and our alumni enjoy successful careers in a wide variety of industries and roles.”
