Scotland aims to appeal to Indian students with £6 million worth of scholarships, of which £1 million has been exclusively reserved for ‘outstanding’ Indian students.
The initiative was carried out as part of Deputy First Minister John Swinney’s diplomatic mission to India. Hence, currently there is a range of opportunities accessible to Indian students throughout all 19 Scotland universities these opportunities include:
- A £200,000 scholarship delivered by the Scottish Funding Council which will give up to 20 students from India £10,000 each for the 2018/19 year, for students studying in big data, medical technologies or food/water
- A £7,000 scholarship delivered by Strathclyde Business School (part of the University of Strathclyde) will be given to Indian applicants undertaking a Strathclyde MBA (one year, full-time) in Glasgow commencing in September 2018
- Four £7,000 scholarships to applicants for Edinburgh Napier University’s Education is GREAT scheme, as part of a joint initiative between the British Council and UK Universities
- A £2,000 scholarship delivered by the University of Stirling to help cover 2018/2019 tuition fees
- There are approximately 150 scholarships available to Indian students from Heriot-Watt University at its campuses in Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia.
A joint-programme of events will be hosted between 11 Scotland universities, sharing the slogan ‘Scotland’s universities welcome India’ as part of the nation’s objective to market the scholarships and build relationships with India.
John Kemp, Interim Chief Executive of the Scottish Funding Council, said: “The Scottish Funding Council is delighted to support the new scholarship fund for Indian students as part of the wider and substantial offering from Scotland’s university sector. This underlines that Scotland’s colleges and universities remain open to the world for learning, research and innovation”.
The India higher education mission is part of a global campaign named ‘Scotland’s universities welcome the world’ that celebrates the globalised community within universities of Scotland. This initiative is advocated by all 19 universities and they are home to international students from 180 countries.
