    QS World University Rankings: IIT-Bombay displaces IIT-Delhi as India’s top ranked institution

    IIT-Bombay emerged as India’s leading university in the latest QS World University Rankings. To university improved 17 positions to achieve the 162th rank this year; thereby displacing IIT-Delhi as India’s leading institution. IISc-Bangalore has also managed to surpass IIT-Delhi to clinch the 170th position; while IIT-Delhi remains at 172th rank. IIT-Bombay made drastic advancement in its ranking within the past year, moving up 40 positions to join its counterpart in Delhi and IISc-Bangalore in the top 200.

    The outstanding performance by Indian institutes of science technology can be attributed to their research outcomes. Research produced by the faculty at 19 Indian universities ranked in both the 2018 and 2019 rankings have received a total of 803,000 citations. This is 85,000 more than the number of citations received in 2018.

    Overall, 24 Indian universities are featured in the latest QS World University rankings, of which seven have made significant improvement.
