President University Students Proposed Real-Time Monitoring IoT to Save Company’s Electricity Costs

The President University team consisting of Ayu Dewi Sari (Industrial Engineering 2016), Hiqmatus Sholichah (Environmental Engineering 2016), Sonia Sutrisno (Information System 2016), dan Grace Raissa Kelana (Information Technology 2016) won the second place in the BEYOND Competition “BEYOND – Building and Empowering Young Innovators for Indonesia” (1/14). The competition was held by PT. Astra Daihatsu Motor, the leading Indonesian automobile company with an aim to challenge Indonesian students to create innovation or creative ideas to improve company growth, such as improving product quality, service, technology, or human resource capabilities.

In this competition, they submitted an essay that proposed the use of the internet of things (IoT) in the production process at Astra Motor. They proposed the use of technology they call IsMa (Integrated Monitoring System Automation) in which IsMa is a real power monitoring system that can detect unnatural electricity consumption on a machine. “In result, the use of a machine becomes more efficient so the electricity bill is not excessive. In the long term, we will protect the environment from global warming if the use of electricity can be controlled properly,” said Sonia when explaining the ideas her team proposed to Astra.

Being the only private university team to reach the final round, the team leader Ayu expressed her excitement. “We are grateful and proud to have won second place. We hope that our idea can be implemented well and be useful for the company. We are not going to stop here, we will continue to provide creative ideas to help companies maximize their production processes,” she said.
