Oman’s Majan University College student Elina Khasanova participated in the 2nd International Conference on Language, Education and Culture in Istanbul, Turkey on June 27th. Elina’s paper was entitled ‘A synchronic study of Omani EFL Learners’ production of the speech act of giving and responding to compliments in English.’ The study investigated the pragmatic competence of Omani business students in paying and responding to compliments in English.
Elina says: ‘Participating in an international conference helps not only build your public speaking skills and overall confidence, but also enables me to gain experience and learn from other researchers in the field of English language. Moreover, my presentation was awarded Best Presentation Award. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the lecturers at MUC who constantly support us, and who, by example, motivate us.
