NUS is back on top as Asia’s No. 1 university

The National University of Singapore (NUS) reclaimed its top position as Asia’s leading university following the latest release of the QS World University Rankings; while the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) moved to the 12th position. NUS’s leap in a total of four places in this year’s ranking can be attributed to the institution’s strengthening of its annual research profile.

The world university rankings assessment is carried out based on six performance indicators to evaluate a university’s strengths in research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. NUS’s improvement in ranking is mainly due to an advancement in its research performance. The institution has also retained its position in the area of academic reputation.

However, NTU remains Singapore’s strongest research institution, standing at 47th place globally. Mr Ben Sowter, QS research director, pointed out that it is exceptional for a young nation like Singapore to have two of its universities to be among the top 15 institutions.
