MSU, Friends of Rivers Malaysia Collaborate For Sustainability

In view of fulfilling UN Sustainable Development Goals through River of Life activities, Management and Science University (MSU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Friends of Rivers Malaysia (FoRM).

The collaboration is aimed at uplifting and upgrading the Damansara River stretch behind MSU’s main campus in Shah Alam.

“Life revolves around water, and rivers are essential for life,” said MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid. “The same way community work has been for us in the past 39 years, environmental sustainability is no rhetoric at MSU but one of our pillars. We feel the importance of community engagement and being part of the UNSDG movement. We embrace Goals 1 to 17 as our DNA. From our award-winning MyCoral, a bio-marine project by MSU’s International Medical School (IMS) in Terengganu to MyMountain project, marked the official reopening of Gunung Nuang in the district of Hulu Langat’s Hutan Lipur right here in Selangor, environmental sustainability and community work are part and parcel of the University; building character, competitiveness, and concern in our students.”

FoRM founder and chairman, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang espouses that an action-oriented working framework is needed for our river ecosystem. The environmental engineer and scientist who had served as Secretary-General in the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) went on to present ‘Public Participation Framework towards River Economy’ on stage at the MSU Performing Arts Theatre.

Signing for MSU were MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid and Vice President for Industrial Linkages and Entrepreneurship, Professor Dr Abdul Jalil Ghazali, and for FoRM, its Founder and Chairman Professor, Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang and Deputy Chairman, Mansor Abd Ghani.

Also present was Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs Professor Dato’ Ir Dr Othman A. Karim, senior management of MSU and member of FoRM.
