At a leadership workshop held on 2 November 2017, Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister, Mohamad Nasir emphasised on the importance for higher management of state universities to enhance their capacity in the management of education institutions. The emphasis serves as a reminder to educators on the new challenges faced by the world today. To remain globally competitive, educators will have to have a clear comprehension on academic-related matters, human and financial resources, student affairs and research and employee prosperity.
Leaders of state universities will have to re-organise their priorities when managing their institutions. In addition, the use of communication and information technology could become one way to increase their efficiency.
The Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry are also encouraging universities to open study programmes that were up-to-date and in line with the needs of the work world. This is done in hope that graduates of these programmes will be able to acquire skills required of the industry, thereby opening up job opportunities.
