MAI signed an agreement of cooperation with German Aerospace Center

Within the framework of the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2018), Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yury Ravikovich, on behalf of Moscow Aviation Institute, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft – und Raumfahrt, DLR).

DLR is the leading national centre for aerospace, energy and transport research in Germany, which unites 40 leading institutes in 14 cities of Germany and has 4 branches in Brussels, Paris and Washington. In terms of its position and influence, the organization can be compared with State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS.

During the year preceding the Congress, several working meetings were held between MAI and DLR, during which possible areas for cooperation in the field of aerospace research were discussed. The Memorandum of Cooperation highlighted three areas in which MAI along with DLR, will be implementing joint research programs: Electric engines, Inflatable expanding braking elements and Degradation (loss of properties) of materials under the influence of radiation.

“The signing of Memorandum is an important step in the scientific cooperation between Moscow Aviation Institute, as the leading university of the Russian Federation, and German Aerospace Center, as it allows us to start specific joint research projects in priority areas that are most relevant for us” – said Yury Ravikovich.

69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2018), the largest event in the aerospace industry, uniting scientists, engineers and specialists from national space agencies and research centres around the world, was held in Bremen, Germany between October 1 and 5, 2018.
