    Mahasarakham University Launches an App for Checking Poisonous Mushrooms

    Mahasarakham University (MSU) in cooperation with the Department of Medical Sciences (DMSC), the Ministry of Public Health has launched “Application Mushroom Image Matching,” the new application on the smartphone for checking the poisonous mushrooms.

    Since February 2019, MSU and DMSC have established the Memorandum of Understanding on the edible Mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms database collecting and development of the “Application Mushroom Image Matching”. The application program and the database of 2,000 edible Mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms are now ready for use on the play store and QR code scan.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khwanruan Naksuwankul, lecturer of the Faculty of Science, Mahasarakham University, and member of the inventor team said, “the January – September 2019 report shows that 1,176 people were harmed and three persons were dead by the poisonous mushrooms picked from the forest. As a result, the application is invented by the team as a support device for classifying the 14 types of edible mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms from the forest. Besides the use of the image matching system, the user can also find out more information in the application to make sure about the edible mushroom and poisonous mushroom.”
